Canada-wide hockey-based men’s weight loss program coming to Lethbridge

Feb 19, 2020 | 12:45 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Hockey Fans In Training (FIT) is a program dedicated to giving men aged 35-65 the opportunity to get active and lose some weight – for free.

Hockey FIT is partnered with the University of Lethbridge, and the Western Hockey League, to promote a healthy lifestyle approach to life.

The government-funded initiative comes from research conducted at Western University and proven training programs that help men lose weight through a 12-week cycle.

There is no actual dieting, but they do promote healthy eating if you want to see results.

For Lethbridge participants, Hockey FIT is also partnered with the Lethbridge Hurricanes, so when you are in this program you will use the Hurricanes’ facilities and equipment to better yourself.

After recruitment closes April 15, the program will start in Lethbridge May 26 and continue until August 13.

Doctor and Head Coach Brendan Riggin believes a program like this can completely change someones life.

“Often guys don’t want to participate in healthy lifestyle programs because they don’t really feel that it is designed for them, and that’s where Hockey Fans In Training comes in it’s a specifically for guys and we’re partnering with Canadian Hockey League teams like the Hurricanes across the country and hopefully try and improve men’s health.”

Riggin encourages men who are interested to reach out and sign up and see what improvements you could make to your life health-wise.
