Lethbridge falls slightly in ranking of affordable home rentals

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Year-over-year, single-bedroom rental units in Lethbridge have risen in price by an average of 4.1%.

That is according to the latest National Rent Report from Rentals.ca and Bullpen Research & Consulting.

Out of 30 communities analyzed across the country, Lethbridge was ranked as being the 26th most affordable in February. In January, the city placed 28th.

A typical one-bedroom rental listed for an average of $924 per month, which is down 0.3% from January. For two-bedroom units, those went for $1,026, an increase of 0.4% from last month.

The results for the six Albertan cities in the report are as follows: (one bedroom / two bedroom)

  • Fort McMurray: Ranked 16 ($1,246 / $1,363)
  • Calgary: Ranked 17 (1,227 / $1,448)
  • Grande Prairie: Ranked 22 ($1,042 / $1,214)
  • Edmonton: Ranked 23 ($1,036 / $1,254)
  • Red Deer: Ranked 25 ($945 / $1,024)
  • Lethbridge: Ranked 26 ($924 / $1,026)

Provincially, the average monthly rental price for all property types in January 2020 was $1,244, falling slightly from $1,285 in the same time in 2019.

Toronto was once again ranked as being the most expensive community in the country to rent with an average of $2,315 for a single bedroom, while two-bedrooms listed for $2,926.
