LETHBRIDGE, AB- The Lethbridge Chamber of Commerce held a session Friday (Feb 21) afternoon to address some of the issues surrounding the city’s economy.

Around 100 people attended, including Mayor Chris Spearman, MLA’s Shannon Phillips and Nathan Neudorf, along with many local business owners who were looking for answers relating to Lethbridge’s economy and possible benefits that may come.

The topics included the economy in Lethbridge and Alberta, what Lethbridge is looking to see from the 2020 budget, and questions arose from those topics.

Business owners asked many questions surrounding what changes will come to Lethbridge once the budget is released, the MLA’s and Spearman told the business owners they have no idea what could, and will, happen – they just have to sit and wait.

Mayor Spearman did note that the downtown area of the city is looked upon as quite dirty and dangerous, and he wants to change that narrative through the prosperous businesses in that area.

Many of the questions that were asked were around the economy and if Lethbridge will see any improvement. Phillips and Neudorf weren’t able to answer because they have no numbers.

With the 2020 budget expected next week, all speakers believe this upcoming year will be changed, money-wise, for the benefit of Lethbridge.

Business owners who attended were able to voice their concerns about economic issues.
