The college hosted the annual tournament, a battle of the top eight teams in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC).

After muscling their way through the early competition in the tournament late last week, the Kodiaks faced the Red Deer College Kings on Saturday, Feb. 29 at the Val Matteotti Gymnasium.

It was a tough battle between the two clubs, with a standing rom only crowd filling the venue. In the end, it was the Kings picking up the win in four sets, claiming tournament gold.

The game’s final set went down to the wire, with Red Deer earning the win by a score of 25-23.

Carter Hills was named the player of the game for Red Deer, with Quinn Buchanan earning the honor for the host Lethbridge College Kodiaks.

Red Deer’s Patrik Toze was named the tournament MVP. Additionally, Lethbridge College’s Carter Hansen, Tony Albizzati and Michael Hummel were named to the tournament all-star team.

The trio was joined by Carter Hills, Tom Wass (Red Deer), Bryton Codd (Briercrest College) and Maddux Greves of SAIT.

The silver medal finish for Lethbridge and gold for Red Deer mean both teams will head to the CCAA (Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association) National Championships later this month.

That event is hosted by St. Thomas University in Fredericton, New Brunswick March 11 to 14, 2020.
