LETHBRIDGE, AB – It was a special night for the Lethbridge College Kodiaks basketball teams Wednesday.

Both the men and women’s clubs combined to earn eight ACAC season-ending awards.

Brock Dewsbery was named the men’s basketball ACAC player of the year. Dewsbery also earned the south division rookie of the year award, as did Natalie Hoyt for the women’s side.

The Kodiaks swept both south division coach of the year awards, with Deanna Simpson (women’s team) and Ryan Heggie (men’s team) receiving the honours.

Three players were placed on the ACAC all-conference first-teams. Dewsbery and Orin Porter Jr. made the men’s team, while Kirsten Barwegen earned a spot on the women’s team.

Dewsbery is originally from Raymond and helped his team to a conference-best 20-1 record during his rookie season. He finished fourth in conference scoring with 21.3 points per game and was also a top five player in the ACAC in both three-point percentage and free throw percentage.

Additionally, the guard has been named a CCAA All-Canadian and moves forward as the ACAC’s nominee for CCAA player of the year.

Meanwhile, first-year guard Hoyt averaged 12.1 points per game during the second half of the season. The Barnwell product shot 37 percent from the field and hit 33 percent of her three-point attempts.

Simpson is in her third year as coach of the women’s club and is a former ACAC all-conference selection as a player. This is her first coach of the year award.

Heggie is the longest-serving current coach in the Kodiaks program. This season was his ninth at the helm. This is his second ACAC south division coach of the year award, having previously won in 2015-2016. Heggie moves on as the ACAC nominee for CCAA coach of the year.
