56% of global coronavirus patients have recovered: John Hopkins University

BALTIMORE, MD – Over half of people around the world who have contracted novel coronavirus have fully recovered.

That is according to John Hopkins University, who has been tracking data from their Centre for Systems Science and Engineering since January 22.

Their interactive map shows that, as of Monday, March 9, there have been 111,362 confirmed cases of COVID-19 around the world.

Their most recent update shows that 3,892 people have died of the infection, while 62,392 have recovered.

Approximately 72 per cent of global cases (80,735) originated in Mainland China.

It claims that there have been 66 confirmed cases in Canada. Of those, eight have recovered and one has died.

LNN reported on Sunday that there are three presumptive cases and one confirmed case of COVID-19 in Alberta.

Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health is expected to announce an additional three cases in the province Monday afternoon.

The university uses information from the World Health Organization, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, and the National Health Commission fo the People’s Republic of China.
