LETHBRIDGE, AB – The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns women’s rugby team has added a new player to its ranks.

Sam Ganske will join the team for the 2020-2021 season. Earlier, the team announced the signing of Teagan Viney.

“Sam is returning to Alberta after playing rugby in the UK for a few years and we are over the moon that she has chosen to play varsity rugby at the University of Lethbridge,” said head coach Neil Langevin in a U of L-issued release.

He added that Ganske will compliment the team’s veteran group and be a “welcome addition” to the Pronghorns’ backline.

She’s originally from Stoney Plain, Alberta and is six years removed from high school, having played the last two seasons in England with the Old Albanian Saints.

With that squad, she was part of a South Championship 2, Promotional Playoff and Intermediate Cup winning roster.

The 5-foot-5 back played rugby in high school at Spruce Grove Composite High School and was named the institution’s MVP in 2014.

She’s also played club rugby with the Parkland Sharks Rugby Club in the Tri-Municipal area of Spruce grove, Stoney Plain and Parkland County.

Ganske plans to pursue a degree in Kinesiology and Psychology at the University of Lethbridge.
