After originally being dismissive of the Coronavirus and claiming his country’s medical system has everything under control, U.S. President Donald Trump has finally begun to take the situation seriously.

Trump sat down in the Oval Office to address his nation on Wednesday (Mar 11), to inform his country that all travel between the U.S. and Europe was being suspended for 30 days, beginning on Friday. The United Kingdom is exempted.

This, after Italy completely shut down.

Trump said he was also directing agencies to provide unspecified financial relief for “for workers who are ill, quarantined or caring for others due to coronavirus,” and asked Congress to take action to extend it.

Trump said the U.S. will defer tax payments for some individual and business filers for three months to lessen the impacts of the virus outbreak. He said the Small Business Administration will also make low-interest loans available to businesses to help them weather the storm.

The effort to contain the virus and financial fallout intensified as communities cancelled public events nationwide, universities moved to cancel in-person classes, and families grappled with the impact of disruptions to public schools.

While the U.S. has released the number of those infected at 1000, there is concern that the county’s numbers are faulty, due to a multi-faceted medical system.

The American sports community is ahead of the game south of the 49th. The NBA has suspended its season until further notice, NCAA tournaments will only allow essential staff, and the Seattle Mariners are looking at alternative options for their season-opening series after Washington Gov. Jay Inslee announced a ban on all large gatherings.

Even Hollywood caught on quickly, as the various late shows have dropped their audiences. And, the coronavirus proves it is not discriminatory, as even entertainer heavyweights have been hit. Tom and Rita Hanks have both tested positive for coronavirus while hey were in Australia.
