This comes as a preventative measure during the COVID-19 global pandemic.

In a letter sent by Lethbridge College CEO and President Dr. Paula Burns, it was noted that classes will be suspended Monday, March 16 and Tuesday, March 17.

On Wednesday, March 18, the institution will shift to alternate, online delivery models for students. Practicums, placements, field trips and labs are also suspended Monday and Tuesday.

Burns said the Lethbridge College campus will stay open and accessible to students and employees will continue to work on-site.

“Shifting to an alternate delivery model is a proactive step that we can take to help stop the spread of COVID-19”, Burns stated in the letter.

“This is not a decision we have made lightly. While no cases of COVID-19 have been linked to our campus, we want to take proactive steps to help during this time.”

Burns said the college continues to follow the recommendations of Alberta Health Services (AHS) and the provincial government.

“This is a scenario we have been preparing for an we trust our incredible faculty to guide our students through the rest of this semester,” she said.

Students will be emailed more information through Canvas before the end of the day on Tuesday, with what they need to know to begin alternate delivery on Wednesday.

“For now, please continue to take recommended steps including washing your hands and staying home if you feel sick. If you need further accommodations, please speak to your instructors and supervisors. Thank you and continue to take care of yourselves and each other,” Burns concluded.

The letter can be read in full on the college’s COVID-19 Information page, under the ‘Message from Dr. Paula Burns – March 15, 2020’ tab.
