Province commits $500-M to Covid-19 response and shuts down K to 12 schools
EDMONTON, AB. — At a late Sunday (Mar 15) afternoon news conference in Edmonton, The Premier, the Health Minister, the Education Minister and Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw gathered to provide a much more serious COVID-19 update.
A total of 17 new cases since yesterday, brought Alberta’s number of confirmed cases up to 56. Three of the cases are in Edmonton, while the other 14 are in Calgary. Two the 17 are in hospital, while the remained are isolating at home.
Up until now, all of the COVID-19 cases have been travel related. However, two of the news cases fall outside of that scenario, and the individuals likely developed the illness through community transmission while at a gathering.
For that reason Aggressive additional public health measures are being implemented province-wide to limit the spread of COVID-19 and protect Albertans, after new cases appear to be spreading into community settings.
