LETHBRIDGE, AB – Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) is asking for the public’s help in finding the driver of a vehicle who drove in a high-speed road rage incident that ended in a rollover collision.

On Tuesday, March 10 at approximately 6:30 pm, police and EMS responded to a collision on 5 Ave North just east of Stafford Drive North.

The investigation determined that a 19-year-old driver was heading northbound on Stafford in the area of 1 Ave South when he became involved in an incident with an unknown driver in a lighter-coloured SUV.

“Both vehicles were travelling at a high rate of speed – witnesses estimated upwards of 100 km/h,” reads a media release from LPS.

The 19-year-old tried to cut in front of the SUV to turn right onto 5 Ave North, but due to the speed, he was unable to maintain control of the vehicle.

The vehicle jumped the centre meridian on 5 Ave North and entered the westbound lanes, striking a vehicle and going over the hood/windshield before rolling once.

The occupants of both vehicles were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Aren Benjamin Lee Verwer, 19, of Lethbridge, is charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. He is scheduled to appear in court on April 29.

The investigation into the driver of the SUV is ongoing.
