PINCHER CREEK, AB – Following the lead of many businesses, the Castle Mountain ski resort has closed for the season.

The popular destination for snow sport enthusiasts made the announcement late Tuesday, March 17.

“After carefully considering our options to protect the well-being of our staff, guests, the surrounding community, and with the rapidly growing concerns surrounding the COVID-19 outbreak, Castle will be closing for the winter season as of 5 PM today [Tuesday],” the resort stated.

Castle’s announcement followed direction from the Canada West Ski Association that all ski areas in Alberta close by the end of the day Tuesday.

“We feel that this decision is the right decision for all concerned at this time,” the resort said.

“A top priority at Castle is the well-being and safety of our staff, guests and mountain community. The closure will allow our staff and guests the time they need to return home should additional travel restrictions be announced.”

The resort concluded that it’s been a terrific ski season and staff look forward to seeing guests on the slopes next winter.
