LETHBRIDGE, AB – The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns men’s basketball team has a new coach.

Jermaine Small is replacing interim head coach James McKinnon. Small is the 13th coach in the team’s 51-year history.

The Toronto native was most recently the head bench leader and general manager of the Edmonton Stingers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL).

He was promoted to that role with Edmonton last summer following the resignation of former Pronghorns coach and current Alberta Golden Bear leader Barnaby Craddock.

The Stingers acquired a record of 10-2 under Small’s guidance and finished with a season record of 14-6. They eventually lost to the inaugural CEBL champion Saskatchewan Rattlers in the championship weekend semifinals.

Before joining the Stingers, he was the lead assistant coach with Queen’s University for five seasons and spent the previous three as an assistant with the Ryerson Rams, working alongside current NBA assistant coach (Sacramento Kings)/Chief of Staff Roy Rana.

While working with Ryerson, Small helped build the program into one of the strongest university clubs in U SPORTS, which included a run in the national tournament in 2012.
