LETHBRIDGE, AB – Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) has charged a man after a reported incident at a liquor store.

On Friday, March 20, police were called to the Liquor Depot on the 500 Block of University Drive West.

The investigation determined that a man entered the store and asked to use the phone.

“During the conversation, he became upset, threw the phone, pushed over the store computer and proceeded to knock over displays of alcohol,” reads a media release from LPS.

A customer heard the commotion and asked the suspect to stop, but was shoved backwards multiple times.

“Upon police arrival the subject was belligerent with the officers and threatened them during his arrest.”

Damages to the store are estimated at anywhere between $5,000 and $10,000.

Wesley Brian Phillips, 36, of Lethbridge, is charged with mischief over $5,000, failing to comply with release order conditions, failing to comply with a probation order, and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.

Phillips was initially set to be released on recognizance, but since he could not pay the required cash deposit, he was remanded in custody.

He is scheduled to appear in court May 29.
