Exhibition Park lays off dozens of workers due to COVID-19

Mar 25, 2020 | 12:20 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Exhibition Park has announced that a sizable number of their employees will be affected by layoffs and event cancellations.

The company says 80 per cent of its full-time workforce is being temporarily laid off as of March 31, 2020.

CEO Rudy Friesen explains that this amounts to 27 employees, leaving them with just six full-time members.

Previously, LNN reported that the upcoming Home and Garden Show was only being postponed, but Exhibition Park now says it has been cancelled.

As a result, about 40-to-50 of their 250 casual workers will be impacted.

“Along with all public gathering facilities, Exhibition Park has faced an abrupt halt to all public on-site activities. As a result, the decision has been made to undertake this temporary reduction,” Friesen said in a statement.

He adds that this is a necessary step to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

“We understand that the Pandemic is resulting in an ever-changing situation. We will continue to provide updates regarding operations at Exhibition Park as they become available.”
