CANstruction event closing public viewing early due to COVID-19 pandemic

The sculptures are being disassembled and all food will be donated to the Interfaith Food Bank Society of Lethbridge, the Lethbridge Food Bank and Lethbridge College Food Bank.

“While it’s unfortunate the public was not able to take full advantage of the opportunity to view the structured for the entire time this year, we are very grateful to the teams that put time, effort and sources into building these amazing pieces of art,” said Maral Kiani Tari of the Lethbridge Food Bank, in a release.

Danielle McIntyre with Interfaith said, “we’re so proud of this community effort and the creativity of the teams this year.”

The sculptures get evaluated by a panel of judges in a number of categories, including People’s Choice. Unfortunately, due to the early end of the event, winner announcements will be delayed until after the community recovers from COVID-19.

“We look forward to the announcement from the CANstruction Committee later this year as to the winners, but have posted photos of each structure on our social media sites to celebrate their support of local food banks,” McIntyre said.
