NHL postpones draft, awards, scouting combine over COVID-19 “uncertainty”

Mar 26, 2020 | 2:15 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The National Hockey League (NHL) is putting off three of its upcoming events.

The 2020 NHL Scouting Combine was originally scheduled for June 1-6, the 2020 Bridgestone NHL Awards would have taken place June 18, and the 2020 NHL Draft was set for June 26-27.

According to a statement from the league, these decisions were made “due to the ongoing uncertainty resulting from the coronavirus.”

The location, timing and format of the 2020 NHL Draft (and Draft Lottery) will be announced when details are finalized.

Earlier this month, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman announced that the season was on “pause” due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

There are no official timelines for when action might resume, although some reports have pointed to sometime this summer.
