COALDALE, AB – An early Monday (Mar 30) house fire in Coaldale caused significant damage.

Coaldale’s emergency Services were called out around 5:30, to a home at 1943 Parkside Close, on the east side of the town.

Firefighters were met by fames coming from the front of the house and the roof. They used a ground monitor, several handlines and an elevated master stream to bring the fire under control.

A total of 16 firefighters were on scene and the fire was under control in 37-minutes. Initial damage to the home is pegged at $250,000.

“We were able to contain the fire to the house of origin, although two additional houses suffered minor siding damage due to heat,” noted Fire Chief Kevin McKeown.

There were two occupants in the house along with two dogs, who safely escaped the house prior to the fire department arriving.

McKeown attributes the the lack of injury to those in the house to the fact that they had a working smoke alarm and were notified early enough to exit the house.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Chief Mckeown commended all the volunteer firefighters who did a great job keeping the fire contained, as it could have easily enveloped two or three other adjacent homes.
