Nobleford firefighter one of two killed in northern Alberta

NOBLEFORD, AB – A Nobleford volunteer firefighter has passed away.

Jake Sansom was identified as one of the victims of a weekend shooting northeast of Edmonton in the Bonnyville area.

The 39-year-old was killed along with his uncle, 57-year-old Morris Cardinal. The two were up north fishing at the time.

Nobleford and District Emergency Services noted Sansom’s passing in a Facebook post. They said Sansom was a gentle person, who had a big heart and always wanted to help anyone he could.

Sansom leaves behind a wife and three children.

A GoFundMe campaign has been started to assist Sansom’s wife and daughters.

As of this publication, the campaign has surpassed its goal of $35,000 and has seen $36,960 raised.

The RCMP Major Crimes Unit and Bonnyville RCMP continue to investigate the incident.
