Parking at Alberta hospitals made temporarily free

Apr 2, 2020 | 2:40 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Starting Friday, April 3, there will be no fee for healthcare workers or the general public to park at Alberta Health Services (AHS) facilities.

Many health-care workers and physicians are working from home and others need to work at a variety of sites. Removing parking fees and the need for parking passes will make these transitions easier.

“Health-care workers and the general public should not have to worry about paying for parking in the midst of responding to COVID-19,” says Health Minister Tyler Shandro. “Our government will provide whatever resources are needed to protect Albertans during the COVID-19 emergency.”

The provincial government estimates that this temporary change will result in an estimated loss of parking revenues of $7.6-million per month.

Although parking will be free, visitors are asked to be respectful of spaces allocated for staff.

The temporary suspension will end once visitor restrictions are lifted.

Parking violations, such as for parking in fire lanes, will continue to be enforced.
