Three Hurricanes named to WHL Conference All-Star Teams

LETHBRIDGE, AB – A trio of Lethbridge Hurricanes have been honoured by the WHL.

On Monday, April 6, defenceman Alex Cotton was named to the league’s Eastern Conference Second All-Star Team. Cotton recorded 67 points (20 goals and 47 assists) in 63 games this past season.

The Langley, B.C. native ranked second among all WHL defencemen in assists. The 18-year-old is eligible for the 2020 NHL Draft.

Cotton is joined on the Second All-Star Team by goaltender Max Paddock (Prince Albert Raiders), defenceman Matthew Robertson (Edmonton Oil Kings), forward Mark Kastelic (Calgary Hitmen), forward Peyton Krebs (Winnipeg ICE) and forward Riley Sawchuk (Edmonton Oil Kings).

The Western Conference Second All-Star Team is comprised of goalie Joel Hofer (Portland Winterhawks), defencemen Bowen Byram (Vancouver Giants) and Jake Christiansen (Everett Silvertips), and forwards Zane Franklin (Kamloops Blazers), Bryce Kindopp (Everett Silvertips) and Eli Zummack (Spokane Chiefs).

FIRST ALL-STAR TEAM

Hurricane defenceman Calen Addison and forward Dylan Cozens were both named to the Eastern Conference First All-Star Team.

Addison recorded 52 points (10 goals, 42 assists) in 50 games. He ranked third in scoring among conference defencemen. He’s also a Minnesota Wild prospect and has accrued 215 points (41 goals, 174 assists) across 252 WHL regular season games.

Dylan Cozens was selected by the Buffalo Sabres in the first round of the 2019 NHL Draft.

In 51 games with the ‘Canes this past season, the 19-year-old Whitehorse, Yukon skater scored 38 goals and dished out 47 assists. He was tied for the league lead in short-handed goals with four and recorded five four-point games as part of 23 multi-point games throughout 2019-2020.

In 179 regular season WHL games, Cozens has recorded 223 points (95 goals, 128 assists).

Cozens and Addison also won gold over Christmastime with team Canada at the IIHF World Juniors. Canada defeated Russia 4-3 to win the tournament.

Joining the duo on the Eastern Conference First All-Star Team are:

· Defenceman Braden Schneider (Brandon Wheat Kings)

· Forward James Hamblin (Medicine Hat Tigers)

· Forward Aliaksei Protas (Prince Albert Raiders)

The Western Conference First All-Star Team is made up of:

· Goaltender Dustin Wolf (Everett Silvertips)

· Defenceman Johnny Ludvig (Portland Winterhawks)

· Defenceman Ty Smith (Spokane Chiefs)

· Forward Adam Beckman (Spokane Chiefs)

· Forward Seth Jarvis (Portland Winterhawks)

· Forward Connor Zary (Kamloops Blazers)

WHL Conference All-Stars are voted in by Western Hockey League general managers.

Last month, the WHL announced the official end of its season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
