Work continues for cattle producers as they accommodate COVID-19

CALGARY, AB. — While many businesses in the province have come to a stand-still, there are others that have seen no reduced work load.

Those who work in the cattle industry have thousands of people relying on them, not to mention just as many animals on the hoof that need to be fed and cared for.

At this time, producers are having to look after their animals while practicing social distancing and following self-isolation guidelines as required.

The Beef Cattle Research Council (BCRC), says while it’s business as usual, they want producers and their product to remain safe during the pandemic.

BCRC notes that production practices, such as vaccinations and processing must continue for the health and welfare of animals. At the same time, other activities such as cattle sales, shipments, or brandings, will continue, to maintain the beef production cycle.

The Canadian Cattlemen’s Association has posted important guidelines that producers should follow.
