Citizen tip leads to arrest, drugs and weapons seizure

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Police in Lethbridge have charged a man following a $136,000 drug seizure.

On April 7, at around 8:00 a.m., a city resident reported a suspicious vehicle along the 1400 block of 14 Street North. LPS says the vehicle was parked but still running with the driver asleep behind the wheel.

Police attended the scene and woke the driver, who they say initially provided a fake name.

After he was correctly identified, police determined that he was breaching conditions of a house arrest in Calgary. The man attempted to flee after exiting the vehicle but was apprehended by police.

During a search, officers seized nearly 990 grams of methamphetamine, 437 grams of cocaine and nearly 47 grams of carfentanil. Additionally, they seized a loaded .44 caliber revolver that had been stolen out of Stettler, ammunition, two knives, nearly $19,000 in cash and a locked safe.

LPS says the combined street value of the drugs totals nearly $136,000.

36-year-old Michael Newman Davies, of Calgary is charged with the following:

· Knowingly possessing an unauthorized firearm

· Five counts of failing to comply with release order conditions

· Unauthorized possession of a firearm/weapon in vehicle

· Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm

· Possession of a firearm/weapon obtained by an offence

· Three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking

· Trafficking in property proceeds over $5,000

· Possession of stolen property under $5,000

· Attempted obstruction of justice

· Resisting a peace officer

· Careless use/storage of a firearm

Following a Judicial Interim Release hearing, Davies was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in court April 9.
