LETHBRIDGE, AB – A 25-year-old man has been charged after allegedly committing a series of arsons.

On Tuesday, April 7 at approximately 5:15 pm, Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services responded to a dumpster fire in an alley on the 400 block of 13 Street North.

“While on scene, a second fire was located a short distance away,” reads a media release from Lethbridge Police Service (LPS). “Both were extinguished and no one was injured.”

Upon the arrival of police, they were able to view surveillance footage of a male suspect.

The following day around 5:50 pm, police were called to a fire next to a dumpster in an alley on the 600 block of Columbia Boulevard West.

A witness saw a man fleeing the area and gave a description to police.

An officer, en route to the fire, saw a man that matched the description crossing McMaster Boulevard.

“The male, who smelled heavily of smoke and had soot on his hands and face, was arrested without incident. During a search of the subject incidental to arrest, police also recovered a stolen credit card.”

Danny Daryl Berdan, 25, of Lethbridge, is charged with three counts of arson and one count of possession of a stolen credit card.

Berdan remains in custody and is awaiting a bail hearing.
