Alberta reports 69 new COVID-19 cases, including four new in South Health Zone

EDMONTON, AB – The provincial government announced 69 new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus in Alberta today, April 11.

That brings the provincial total to 1,569 cases. The total number of deaths in the province due to the virus is now at 40, with the addition of one new death announced Saturday.

The deceased is a woman in her 70s in the Calgary Zone, who the province says was a resident at the McKenzie Towne Continuing Care Centre. That’s now 83 confirmed cases of COVID-19 at the seniors’ home, with 18 deaths.

In the Calgary Zone, there are now 976 cases and 28 deaths. There are 388 cases in the Edmonton Zone, and 7 deaths. In the Central Zone, 72 cases have been confirmed, with one death. The North Zone has seen 99 cases and four deaths. Four cases are in zones in which the location is now known.

In the South Health Zone, four new cases were confirmed, bringing the area’s total to 30 confirmed cases.

There are nine cases confirmed within the city of Lethbridge. The province says seven of those cases have recovered, with two still considered active.

One case was reported in the MD of Willow Creek. It’s since been listed as recovered. There are two cases in the MD of Taber, which are now listed as recovered. The County of Forty Mile has two cases that are active.

The province has listed five active cases in Cypress County, and 11 cases in the City of Medicine Hat. Seven are active and four have recovered.

Across the province, 47 Albertans are hospitalized and 13 people are in intensive care. There have been 774 recoveries in Alberta.

Alberta Premier Jason Kenney also announced today (April 11) that the province is sending personal protective equipment (PPE) to Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia.
