LETHBRIDGE, AB – Dino Kambeitz has been recognized for his community work off the ice.

The Lethbridge Hurricanes forward is this year’s recipient of the Herman Elfring Community Relations Award. The honour is bestowed upon a player that best represents the team in the community.

Kambeitz was acquired during the off-season from the Victoria Royals. With extended family in Lethbridge, he was at the forefront for different community events.

He visited many schools to read with students, run class activities, share stories from hockey playing career, talk about bullying, concussion awareness and the importance of education.

The team says he took part in the Lethbridge Therapeutic Riding Association’s Ride into Christmas event, went bowling with the Hockey Hounds, delivered teddy bears to children at the Chinook Regional Hospital and baked goods for those taking part in the Care From the Heart Radio-A-Thon.

Additionally, he arranged for himself and some teammates to attend two ringette practices to learn the game and help coaches run drills. He attended multiple minor hockey practices and joined ‘Canes fans at the Copperwood Street Hockey event, took part in the AMA skate for school safety patrollers and helped serve breakfast at the Lethbridge Soup Kitchen.

On the ice, Kambeitz played in 52 games in his first season with Lethbridge. He recorded 29 points, with 16 goals and 13 assists, along with 49 penalty minutes and a plus-6 rating while serving as an Alternate Captain for the team.

Last year’s winner was Jake Elmer, who also won the award for the 2017-2018 season.
