Drivers license tests temporarily suspended in Alberta

Apr 15, 2020 | 10:22 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – If you were planning on getting your driver’s license any time soon, you’re out of luck.

Effective immediately, Alberta Transportation is suspending road tests during the public health emergency surrounding COVID-19. However, the agency says they will be developing procedures to conduct road tests in a way that limits the spread of the virus.

“Road tests will resume when it is safe to do so.”

If you had your scheduled driver’s license test cancelled as a result of the suspension of the service, you will be able to rebook online once the public health emergency ends at no additional cost.

You can request a refund by emailing driverexaminations@gov.ab.ca. Make sure to include your full name, date of birth, motor vehicle identification (MVID), and your road test permit number if you have it.

Driver’s licenses, vehicle registrations, and other permits that are set to expire right away have been extended until May 15, 2020.
