Ottawa expands the CERB program

OTTAWA, ON – Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced some changes to the Canadian Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) this morning, April 15.

Trudeau stated in his COVID-19 update that the CERB has been expanded to reach more citizens.

People who earn up to $1,000 a month will soon be able to access the benefit. It’s also been expanded so it applies to seasonal workers and to those who have run out of employment insurance (EI).

Ottawa will also be topping up the pay of essential workers who earn less than $2,500 a month. Trudeau said that includes many people who work in long-term care homes.

More to come.
