Canes trade Dorrington for Mitchell Prowse & two picks

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes have announced a new trade.

They have sent 2002-born forward Nick Dorrington to the Victoria Royals.

In exchange, they received 2000-born defenseman, Mitchell Prowse, as well as both a seventh and an eight-round pick in the 2022 WHL Bantam Draft.

Prowse, 19, was originally selected by the Royals in the second rounds (35 overall) in the 2015 Bantam Draft.

Originally from Kelowna, BC., he played 64 games with Victoria this past season, recording a career-high 33 points including 30 assists and 76 penalty minutes.

The 6’2″, 200-pound defenseman has appeared in a total of 239 regular-season games in the WHL, totalling 81 points (9g-72a) along with 200 penalty minutes and a minus-three rating.

“We are really excited to add Prowse to our group for next season,” said Hurricanes General Manager Peter Anholt. “We needed to add to our defense for next year with the departures of Ty Prefontaine, Koletrane Wilson and Calen Addison, and we feel this is a strong add and an important piece for us.”

Dorrington, 18, appeared in 36 games in his rookie season with the Hurricanes in 2019-2020 totaling two points (1g-1a)along with 18 penalty minutes and a minus-3 rating. The Langley, British Columbia product was undrafted in the WHL Bantam Draft before being listed and signed by the ‘Canes in 2018.
