BROOKS, AB – An employee working at the KFC in Brooks has tested positive for COVID-19, a spokesperson from KFC Canada confirms.

In an emailed statement to CHAT News Today, KFC Canada said the employee is in quarantine and receiving treatment.

“A team member from our restaurant in Brooks, Alberta has tested positive for COVID-19 and per health authority guidelines, is in quarantine and receiving treatment as needed. The public health department and all employees were informed immediately, and the restaurant was closed same day on Thursday, April 16th,” Bethany Tillo, media relations officer for KFC Canada said.

The restaurant will be closed for a minimum of 14 days and all team members who have been exposed to the infected worker have been asked to self-isolate.

The spokesperson could not say if the infected worker was a close contact of a JBS Canada meat plant worker.

“Although for the protection of our team member privacy we cannot provide any further details on this specific case, we do ask that anyone who visited our Brooks restaurant to take directions from Alberta Health Services on their website: https://www.albertahealthservices.ca

This is the second time in a matter of days that an employee at a fast food restaurant has tested positive for the virus in Brooks.

On Friday, McDonald’s Canada announced an employee in Brooks tested positive for the virus.

LNN reported Sunday that 102 people in Brooks have tested positive for COVID-19, making up more than two-thirds of all cases in the South Health Zone.
