South Zone COVID-19 cases reach 200

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Government of Alberta has released its latest daily update on COVID-19 infections.

187 new cases were confirmed Tuesday, bringing the provincial total to 3,095.

Across Alberta, 1,273 patients have fully recovered. 109,015 people have been tested to date.

Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw says 401 people at the Cargill meatpacking plant in High River have tested positive for the virus. High River is part of the Calgary Health Zone.

As for JBS in Brooks, 77 cases of the virus have been confirmed.

20 employees at the Kearl Lake oil sands project near Fort McMurray have contracted the virus.

Continuing care centres are still being impacted greatly by COVID-19. 367 cases at the facilities have been confirmed, including outbreaks at 29 different centres.

The breakdown by regional health zone is as follows:

  • Calgary zone – 2,204 cases, 41 deaths (one new)
    • 44,941 tests
  • Edmonton zone – 446 cases, nine deaths
    • 33,958 tests
  • South zone – 200 cases
    • 5,452 tests
  • North zone – 148 cases, 10 deaths (one new)
    • 8,580 tests
  • Central zone – 77 cases, one death
    • 9,691 tests

For the South Health Zone, the breakdown is as follows:

  • Brooks – 157 cases (42 new)
  • Medicine Hat – 16 cases (one new), 10 recovered
  • Lethbridge – 12 cases (one new), eight recovered
    • West Lethbridge – seven cases (one new), five recovered
    • South Lethbridge – five cases, three recovered
  • Cypress County – eight cases, one recovered
  • M.D. of Taber – two cases, two recovered
  • County of Forty Mile – two cases, two recovered
  • Lethbridge County – one case
  • County of Newell – one case
