Brooks RCMP crack down on self-quarantine non-compliance

Apr 23, 2020 | 10:27 AM

BROOKS, AB. — RCMP are giving no leeway to those who snub Public Health orders regarding self-quarantine.

On Wednesday (Apr 22), officers investigated a complaint about a man loitering around homes and vehicles in a residential area on the north end of Brooks. They found items belonging to a man known to have been ordered by Alberta Health Services to be in self-quarantine at his home.

About an hour later, the 19-year-old Brooks man was located at Lake Stafford Park, and he was fined $1,200 under Alberta’s Public Health Act.

RCMP officers, using Personal Protective Equipment during the investigation, escorted the man to his residence. Because they were appropriately protected, the officers will not have to self-isolate.
