Updated Alberta COVID-19 numbers for Sunday, April 26

EDMONTON, AB.– Updated numbers from Alberta Health Services on Sunday, show COVID-19 cases increased by 247, taking the total number to 4,480.

On a positive note, there were no additional deaths added to the 73 that have already been recorded and the number of recoveries is now at 1,549.

Of all cases, 462 are suspected of being community acquired. To date, 435 cases have been confirmed at continuing care facilities, and 48 residents have died.

The major of the news cases are attributed to the Calgary Health Zone, which had an additional 140 cases, while all new cases in the South Zone were found in Brooks.

Until the past week, the South Health Zone COVID-19 graph rate showed the lowest numbers in the province with a virtually straight line. However, with a significant jump in cases in the City of Brooks, the South Health zone numbers have risen above the Edmonton Health Zone, with only the Calgary Health zone numbers surpassing the South region.

— Calgary zone – 3,104 cases, 46 deaths

— Edmonton zone – 479 cases, 10 deaths

— South zone – 598 cases, two deaths

— North zone – 182 cases, 14 deaths

— Central zone – 83 cases, one death

South Zone break-down:

Brooks – 546 cases (94 new), two recovered, two deaths

Medicine Hat – 25 cases, 11 recovered

Lethbridge – 12 cases, eight recovered

West Lethbridge – seven cases, five recovered

South Lethbridge – five cases, three recovered

Cypress County – eight cases, five recovered

County of Newell – five cases

M.D. of Taber – two cases, two recovered

County of Forty Mile – two cases, two recovered

Lethbridge County – one case, one recovered
