STANDOFF, AB. — While other areas of the South Health Zone have been reporting COVID-19 cases on and off for the past month, the Blood Reserve had so far accomplished a stellar response and escaped the virus.

However, on Wednesday afternoon, Blood Tribe Chief Roy Fox announced that Alberta Health confirmed there is now a case of COVID-19 on the Blood Reserve

Chief Fox was joined by Director of Emergency Management, Rick Soup and Dr. Esther Tailfeathers at a news conference, to run down what is being done on the reserve.

“Our health officials are working quickly to notify those who have come in contact with this person – we offer our prayers for them and their family. We also ask all Blood Reserve residents and members who are thinking of returning to the reserve, to stay home or where you are at, as our health professionals complete their contact tracing and notification,” said Fox.

“It is so important that we follow the very important instructions that we received from out health professionals and we continue with those practices. If we do that, said Fox, “we will hopefully, stem the spread of this very dangerous virus.”

Blood Tribe residents are also reminded, if you experience any COVID-19 symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose nasal congestion, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, you should immediately call 403-737-8411.
