WCBL baseball season delayed until at least late June

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Do not expect to be attending any Lethbridge Bulls games right away.

The Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL) says they have made the “difficult but necessary decision” to, at a minimum, delay the start of this year’s season to late June or early July.

“The start of the season as scheduled in late May is impossible to maintain at this point, and thus, we regrettably need to make this decision,” says WCBL President Kevin Kvame.

He hopes to be able to put on a partial season should the positions of health and government officials change in the near future.

“The health and safety of our players, coaches, officials, and fans are paramount in all of our decision making and we will not be doing anything that is not in accordance with the public health authorities and government of the respective provinces.”

Kvame says the league is working on a “legacy project” that will allow teams to show their community pride and brand in even better ways when teams are able to return.

The 10-team league encompasses six teams in Alberta and four in Saskatchewan.

The Albertan clubs include the Lethbridge Bulls, Medicine Hat Mavericks, Brooks Bombers, Okotoks Dawgs, Edmonton Prospects, and Fort McMurray Giants.
