City Council approves Lethbridge Los Amigos donation

LETHBRIDGE, AB. — City Council is moving forward with the Sunrise Rotary request to transport a decommissioned ambulance down to Mexico for people in need.

The Los Amigos Project put on by the Lethbridge Rotary Club will transport a retired EMS Ambulance down to a community in need of the vehicle.

At first, one of the councillors raised the motion of the use of the vehicle here in Lethbridge or in a community near the city, especially through this tough time.

The concern was brought forward because if the vehicle is capable of being used in Mexico, then why couldn’t it be used here as well.

Council has now approved that the trip from October 18th to 31st of 2020 is all set to happen.

Lethbridge Los Amigo`s Project Co-chair Doug Thornton knows how important these ambulances can be.

“It is surplus and can no longer be used as an ambulance in Alberta, but in Mexico, it’s a different story. It makes a huge difference to these small communities that couldn’t even dream of having anything as valuable as our surplus ambulances.”

Thornton says that since this Pandemic has changed some of their plans when crossing the border, when the time comes in October they will have to re-evaluate the situation then.
