Lethbridge County announces property tax penalty deferral for COVID-19 relief

May 13, 2020 | 4:08 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Lethbridge County will be delaying the property tax penalty because of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

In normal situations each year, if you don’t pay your property taxes before the 31st of July, there would be a penalty added on.

For this year, to weather-the-storm, the Lethbridge County is allowing property taxpayers to delay paying until the start of October 2020.

This years Operating Budget expenses are $28,201,410 for delivery of services, $15,458,355 of which is funded through the tax support.

The deferral would assist property owners who have been financially impacted by the pandemic, even though the County relies on property taxes as an essential source of revenue to fund the operations of the municipality and provide essential services to our citizens, such as road maintenance, utility services, planning and development.

Property tax notices will be mailed at the end of May with details on methods of payment and a reminder of the revised penalty date.
