LETHBRIDGE, AB – Cardston’s Ty Lewis has committed to the Lethbridge College Kodiaks.

Lewis will suit up for the college’s men’s basketball team for the 2020-2021 season. Lewis is pegged as a multi-sport athlete, having competed in both basketball and football for Cardston High School.

“Ty is a player that was recruited by USPORT and other ACAC programs, so being able to sign him as a Kodiak is an exciting day,” said the team’s head coach Ryan Heggie in a Kodiaks-issued release.

“He plays a tough, unselfish game of basketball and winning matters to him.”

Last season, the Kodiaks went 20-1 in conference play, capturing an ACAC south division title for the first time since 2011.

Sadly, the team was unable to capture an ACAC championship.

The Cardston point guard is following in the footsteps of his uncle, Orvil Smith, who played for the Kodiaks in the early 1980s.

“It means a lot to join the Kodiaks program,” he stated.

“I have always had the goal of playing college athletics and the Kodiaks have given me that chance.”

The future of the upcoming season remains up in the air amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, but Lewis said he’s excited for whenever he can suit up for Lethbridge College.

“I’m looking forward to getting back on the court with a winning program that works hard.”
