Man charged in fatal Lethbridge collision that claimed life of 10-year-old boy

LETHBRIDGE, AB – A 52-year-old Lethbridge man has been charged with careless driving in connection with a fatal collision last month that claimed the life of a 10-year-old boy.

On April 13, at around 3:33 p.m., Lethbridge Police responded to a pedestrian collision at the intersection of Whoop-Up Drive and Aquitania Boulevard West.

LPS says the Traffic Response Unit found that a SUV travelling southbound on Aquitania was facing a yield sign when it proceeded to make a right turn into the westbound lanes of Whoop-Up. Police note the driver then struck two young boys crossing with their father in the crosswalk.

The father was not injured, but a nine-year-old boy suffered minor injuries while a 10-year-old suffered life-threatening injuries.

The 10-year-old was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Neil Martin Skjodt is charged with careless driving under the Traffic Safety Act, which includes an automatic court appearance. He is scheduled to appear in court on August 11, 2020.
