Lethbridge & Cardston County see one new COVID-19 case each, only ones for South Zone

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta saw one of its slowest days for new COVID-19 infections yet.

The Government of Alberta says there were only 33 new cases Tuesday, bringing the total to 6,716. Of those, 5,854 people have fully recovered while 1,004 are still active.

61 patients are currently hospitalized, eight of whom are in intensive care units (ICU).

Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw was pleased to announce no additional deaths as a result of the virus.

“While it is too early to see the full impact of relaunch, so far, our case numbers in the province have held steady. We are not seeing any increase so far in the numbers in Calgary and Brooks, and overall, as I mentioned, our numbers are stable.”

The breakdown by regional health zone is as follows:

  • Calgary zone – 4,634 cases, 810 active
    • 92 deaths
    • 45 in hospital, six in ICU
    • 92,449 tests
  • South zone – 1,212 cases, 107 active
    • Eight deaths
    • Five in hospital
    • 16,717 tests
  • Edmonton zone – 518 cases, 58 active
    • 12 deaths
    • Nine in hospital, two in ICU
    • 56,789 tests
  • North zone – 229 cases, 17 active
    • 15 deaths
    • Two in hospital
    • 15,284 tests
  • Central zone – 99 cases, seven active
    • One death
    • 16,479 tests

The breakdown for the South Health Zone by community is as follows:

  • Brooks – 1,090 cases, 70 active, seven deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 35 cases, five active
  • Lethbridge – 24 cases (one new), seven active
    • South Lethbridge – 12 cases, four active
    • West Lethbridge – Nine cases (one new), two active
    • North Lethbridge – Three cases, one active
  • Cardston County – 21 cases (one new), 16 active
  • County of Newell – 14 cases, three active
  • Cypress County – 10 cases, three active
  • Fort Macleod – Five cases, two active
  • Special Areas No. 2 – Two cases, zero active, one death
  • M.D. of Taber – Two cases, zero active
  • County of Forty Mile – Two cases, zero active
  • Lethbridge County – One case, zero active
