Man charged after assault, threats involving a gun at South Lethbridge Walmart

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) has arrested a 34-year-old man following an altercation at the south side Walmart.

Around 12:00 pm on Sunday, May 17, police were called to the store on the 3700 block of Mayor Magrath Drive South on reports of a physical altercation between a man and two loss prevention officers.

Taking place in the parking lot, police claim the suspect pointed a handgun at the employees.

Two days prior to this, the same man was allegedly at Walmart and threatened to come back and cause harm after a verbal dispute regarding a return.

According to police, the suspect fled the area and was arrested a short time later without incident.

“Police seized a back pack containing BB gun pellets and CO2 canisters (which are used in BB guns) but no firearm – real or imitation – was recovered,” reads a media release from LPS.

Jordan James Sargeant, 34, of Lethbridge, is charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, causing a disturbance, assault, and two counts of pointing a firearm.

He was released from custody after a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear in court on July 30.
