No new COVID-19 cases anywhere in South Zone Wednesday

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Government of Alberta has posted perhaps its slowest day for COVID-19 infections since the virus entered the province.

Across Alberta, only 19 new cases were confirmed Wednesday, bringing the total to 6,735. Of those, 5,637 people have recovered while 1,004 cases are still active.

There were no new deaths related to the virus, meaning COVID-19 has claimed the lives of 128 Albertans.

For the South Health Zone, the number of infections to date is 1,212, which is unchanged from Tuesday. Only eight per cent of these are still active.

The breakdown by regional health zone is as follows:

  • Calgary zone – 4,649 cases, 784 active
    • 92 deaths
    • 45 in hospital, five in ICU
    • 92,449 tests
  • South zone – 1,212 cases, 99 active
    • Eight deaths
    • Four in hospital
    • 16,717 tests
  • Edmonton zone – 521 cases, 59 active
    • 12 deaths
    • Two in ICU
    • 56,789 tests
  • North zone – 230 cases, 18 active
    • 15 deaths
    • Two in hospital
    • 15,284 tests
  • Central zone – 99 cases, six active
    • One death
    • 16,479 tests

The breakdown for the South Health Zone by community is as follows:

  • Brooks – 1,090 cases, 65 active, seven deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 35 cases, five active
  • Lethbridge – 24 cases, seven active
    • South Lethbridge – 12 cases, four active
    • West Lethbridge – Nine cases, two active
    • North Lethbridge – Three cases, one active
  • Cardston County – 21 cases, 15 active
  • County of Newell – 14 cases, two active
  • Cypress County – 10 cases, two active
  • Fort Macleod – Five cases, two active
  • Special Areas No. 2 – Two cases, zero active, one death
  • M.D. of Taber – Two cases, zero active
  • County of Forty Mile – Two cases, zero active
  • Lethbridge County – One case, zero active
