VAUXHALL, AB – If you spotted a residence on fire along Highway 524 Wednesday evening, there’s no reason to panic.

The M.D. of Taber Regional Fire Service – Station 5 Vauxhall took part in a controlled burn exercise at an abandoned house northeast of Vauxhall.

15 members took part in the rainy evening activity at around 6:00 p.m.

The Station said it was nice to get outside, even in the rain, and conduct the training exercise.

The crew abided by social distancing rules amid the COVID-19 pandemic, wearing masks for the ride to and from the controlled burn site.

The empty house was lit, and the blaze was knocked down in record time at around 30 minutes, according to Station 5.

Crews were back at the fire hall ready to resume service by 9:00 p.m.
