Local hair salons adapting to new ways of giving haircuts

LETHBRIDGE, AB- COVID-19 is presenting its challenges to everyday life.

Do it yourself haircuts can only go so far and now that salons are open, they have to follow strict guidelines to keep employees and the customers safe.

There is an entirely new protocol for both hair salons and hairdressers, which they have to follow to give a trim safely.

At Tommy Gun’s in Park Place Mall, staff members are rigorous in following the steps to ensure the safety of themselves and their customers.

Tommy Gun’s district Manager Jessica Cook walked me through their process of cutting guests’ hair and sanitizing the work station.

“We have all of our signage up for our floor markings and we have two front end girls kind of maintain traffic in and out of the shops, as for our barbers, they sanitize their station before every guest comes in so they’ll wipe down their chairs, their tools, they wipe down all of their products that they have at their stations once the guest comes in they’ll use a new cape and a neck strip.”

Cook also says, “We provide sanitizer for the guest for them as well as our barbers and then after the service, they go through the whole process again.”

Cook says their staff is following all protocols like sanitizing each station before and after use, while other salons also require customers to wear face masks during haircuts.

Chatters salon in Park Place Mall is following strict safety guidelines and is requiring all customers to wear masks that they supply. The effort goes a long way to ensure customers that their safety is being taken seriously.
