Second consecutive day with no new COVID-19 cases in South Health Zone

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Government of Alberta reported a very low number of new COVID-19 infections Saturday.

There were just 13 additional cases provincially, bringing the total to 6,992. Of those, 6,245 people have recovered while 601 cases are still active.

One more person in the Calgary zone has died as a result of COVID-19, but Alberta Health says another death in that area is no longer deemed to have occurred because of the virus, so the Alberta-wide death toll remains the same at 143.

Saturday’s report marks the second day in a row that the South zone saw no new cases.

A total of 257,227 COVID-19 tests have been administered to date.

The breakdown by regional health zone is as follows:

  • Calgary zone – 4,860 cases, 461 active
    • 104 deaths
    • 37 in hospital, four in ICU
    • 109,570 tests
  • South zone – 1,235 cases, 44 active
    • Nine deaths
    • Four in hospital
    • 18,649 tests
  • Edmonton zone – 544 cases, 67 active
    • 13 deaths
    • Nine in hospital, one in ICU
    • 64,101 tests
  • North zone – 243 cases, 27 active
    • 16 deaths
    • Three in hospital
    • 17,802 tests
  • Central zone – 98 cases, two active
    • One death
    • 18,549 tests

The breakdown for the South Health Zone by community is as follows:

  • Brooks – 1,096 cases, 20 active, eight deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 41 cases, eight active
  • Lethbridge – 27 cases, five active
    • West Lethbridge – 12 cases, four active
    • South Lethbridge – 12 cases, one active
    • North Lethbridge – Three cases, zero active
  • Cardston County – 24 cases, four active
  • County of Newell – 15 cases, one active
  • Cypress County – 14 cases, six active
  • Fort Macleod – Five cases, zero active
  • Special Areas No. 2 – Two cases, zero active, one death
  • M.D. of Taber – Two cases, zero active
  • County of Forty Mile – Two cases, zero active
  • Lethbridge County – One case, zero active
