South Zone clear of new COVID-19 cases for fourth consecutive day

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Government of Alberta is reporting another day with low COVID-19 infection rates.

For Sunday, May 31, there were just 18 new cases provincially, bringing the total to 7,010 to date. Of those, 584 are still active while 6,283 have recovered.

For the fourth day in a row, there were no additional infections in the South Health Zone.

As well, no more Albertans died from the virus, leaving the total to 143.

The breakdown for the South Health Zone is as follows:

  • Calgary zone – 4,874 cases, 440 active
    • 104 deaths
    • 35 in hospital, four in ICU
    • 111,007 tests
  • South zone – 1,235 cases, 42 active
    • Nine deaths
    • Four in hospital, one in ICU
    • 18,754 tests
  • Edmonton zone – 546 cases, 69 active
    • 13 deaths
    • Nine in hospital, one in ICU
    • 64,797 tests
  • North zone – 246 cases, 28 active
    • 16 deaths
    • Four in hospital
    • 18,028 tests
  • Central zone – 98 cases, two active
    • One death
    • 18,747 tests

The breakdown for the South Health Zone by community is as follows:

  • Brooks – 1,096 cases, 20 active, eight deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 41 cases, eight active
  • Lethbridge – 27 cases, five active
    • West Lethbridge – 12 cases, four active
    • South Lethbridge – 12 cases, one active
    • North Lethbridge – Three cases, zero active
  • Cardston County – 24 cases, two active
  • County of Newell – 15 cases, one active
  • Cypress County – 14 cases, six active
  • Fort Macleod – Five cases, zero active
  • Special Areas No. 2 – Two cases, zero active, one death
  • M.D. of Taber – Two cases, zero active
  • County of Forty Mile – Two cases, zero active
  • Lethbridge County – One case, zero active

Note: In Saturday’s COVID-19 update, we said that was the second day in a row without new cases in the South Health Zone, but at that point, it was actually the third day.
