LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Government of Alberta has released its latest report on COVID-19 for Monday, June 1.

34 new infections were confirmed, bringing the total to 7,044 to date. Of those, 400 cases are still active while 6,501 people have recovered.

While the number of new cases remains low, Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw says she was concerned to see the caseload in the Edmonton zone rising after remaining flat for quite some time.

Most of the recent numbers in the Edmonton Zone can be traced to a pair of private gatherings.

That is why Dr. Hinshaw is urging the importance of physical distancing, proper hygiene, and not sharing food with others outside of your family cohort.

“I know it may be difficult or even seem rude to ask guests to bring their food and drink and not share it, but it is necessary.”

Starting this week, the eligibility for COVID-19 testing has been expanded to those who do not even show any symptoms.

Dr. Hinshaw is encouraging more people to do this, and if they do end up showing symptoms for the virus, to immediately fill out the self-assessment form and schedule a test.

2,709 tests have been administered over the last 24 hours, meaning 263,074 have been done in total.
