Province consulting industries on Stage 2 of COVID-19 relaunch this week

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Government of Alberta is hosting four telephone town halls this week with a variety of industry stakeholders.

Minister of Economic Development, Trade, and Tourism Tanya Fir says the province wants to hear from businesses and industry associations to gain feedback for the guidance documents for their reopening and to identify any issues with them reopening.

Stage 2 of the Relaunch Strategy will include the reopening of K-12 schools with restrictions, more scheduled surgeries, some larger gatherings, movie theatres, and personal services such as artificial tanning, esthetics, cosmetic skin and body treatments, manicures, pedicures, waxing, facial treatments, massage and reflexology.

Taking part in the telephone town halls are:

  • Minister of Economic Development, Trade, and Tourism Tanya Fir
  • Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw
  • Minister of Municipal Affairs Kaycee Madu
  • Minister of Culture, Multiculturalist, and Status of Women Leela Aheer

Telephone townhall 1:

From 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Monday, June 1, Fir, Madu, and Dr. Hinshaw will hear from operators of libraries.

Pre-registration ends at 2:00 on June 1.

Telephone townhall 2:

From 9:30 am to 10:30 am on Wednesday, June 3, Fir and Dr. Hinshaw will hear from operators of personal services.

These include artificial tanning, esthetics, cosmetics skin and body treatments, manicures, pedicures, waxing, facial treatment, reflexology, and tattoos.

Pre-registration ends at 4:30 pm on June 2.

Telephone townhall 3:

From 11:30 am to 12:30 pm on Wednesday, June 3, Fir, Dr. Hinshaw, and Aheer will hear from operators of movie theatres.

Pre-registration ends at 4:30 pm on June 2.

Telephone townhall 4:

From 5:30 pm to 6:30 on Thursday, June 4, Fir, Dr. Hinshaw, and Aheer will hear from operators of gyms, studios, arenas, and sportsfields.

Pre-registration ends at 2:30 pm on June 4.
