Council approves funding for 2021 Paradise Canyon Open

Jun 2, 2020 | 11:53 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB- After multiple debates, Lethbridge City Council decided the Paradise Canyon Open will be given the green light to go ahead in 2021.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic has put a damper on their plans for the next couple of months, Mackenzie Tour’s Paradise Canyon Open was postponed for 2020.

Being postponed for 2020 means Ron Sakamoto and the Paradise Canyon crew had to go back to the drawing board to get the $250,000 in funding approved.

After already getting the funding for this year’s tournament, this money is essentially just being moved from 2020 to 2021.

The process of getting money from council is not an easy task, not to mention the fact that Sakamoto had to do it twice.

Now that the money is set in stone, tournament organizers can plan for 2021 and get things in order to host the PGA Tour event.

With an extra year to prepare now, council and the City of Lethbridge has high hopes for 2021.
