Funding approved for security upgrades to Lethbridge Correctional Centre

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Members of the Lethbridge Correctional Centre (LCC) will be getting extra security features.

A spokesperson with the Alberta Ministry of Infrastructure said the provincial government recently doubled its investment into capital maintenance and renewal projects “that can be actioned quickly so we can keep companies operating and Albertans working.”

The total amount available for initiatives grew from $1-billion to $2-billion.

Along with that came funding for new projects as well as enhanced grants for existing ones.

A total of $3.3-million will go towards two renewal projects currently underway at LCC.

$1.5-million is being spent to install a new door security control system for holding cells throughout the facility.

Another $1.8-million will be utilized for upgraded video security technology.

Construction is underway on both projects and are expected to be completed shortly.
